Frequently asked questions
Everything about what skingem is, how it works, and what it offers brands — in one place.
What is skingem?
skingem is a skincare product discovery app built for South Africa. Today it compares ZAR prices from South African retailers including Clicks, Dis-Chem, and Woolworths, and has skin profiles and a community feed. We're building reviews you can filter by skin tone, skin type, climate, and budget, and a single Worth Your Money verdict for every product — neither of those is built yet.
Is skingem free?
Yes. The Free tier includes product discovery and search, review reading and writing, skin profile setup, retailer price comparison, and community feed access — no cost, forever. A paid Pro tier is planned (R99/month or R799/year) but is not available yet; the ideas for it are tailored routine feedback, ingredient conflict detection, advanced skin concern tracking, and price alerts.
What does "Worth Your Money" mean?
It's the verdict skingem is building toward: one honest answer combining review signal from people who match your skin profile, skin concern fit, and local price into a single call on whether a product is worth buying. It is not built yet.
Which South African retailers does skingem track?
For MVP launch, skingem is focusing price and stock comparison on three South African retailers: Clicks, Dis-Chem, and Woolworths. The wider scraper catalogue exists internally, but we are keeping the public app scoped to the launch set until freshness and matching quality are consistently verified.
Does skingem work for all skin tones?
It's built to. You can set your skin tone in one of six ranges, from light to deep. Matching reviews to skin tone will grow with the community — today most reviews are imported from retailers and don't include the reviewer's skin tone.
Is skingem available yet?
skingem is launching in 2026. You can join the waitlist at skingem.co.za to get early access.
What does skingem offer brands?
Brand tools — aggregated, anonymised cohort and pricing intelligence for skincare brands and retailers — are planned for 2026 and are not launched yet. If you would like early access or to shape what we build, email brands@skingem.co.za.
How is skingem's brand and cohort data anonymized?
Cohort signal shared with brands (skin type breakdown, sentiment, concern tags, province-level reach) is aggregated across contributors — skingem's cohort cuts require a minimum contributor count per segment before a breakdown is shown, so individual reviewers cannot be identified from brand-facing data.
